An online petition seeking "Justice for Gordon (Whitaker)" has garnered thousands of signatures since it was launched.
Almost 11,000 people have signed the Change.org petition, which called for three Kennewick Police officers involved in the February 9 shooting of Whitaker to be fired.
Logan Wolfe started the petition and wrote in it's description that Whitaker was walking to a store when he was approached and killed by three Kennewick Police Officers.
As per standard protocol, all three officers were placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting. The Tri-City Herald reported all three are now back at work.
"The family has not been provided with any body cam evidence as (police) say there wasn't any, nor have they received any answers as to why lethal force was needed to be used on a man who had already been detained," Wolfe wrote on the petition.
The regional Special Investigations Unit continues to investigate the shooting. Once the report is completed, it'll be handed over to prosecutors who'll consider whether or not criminal charges are filed.
