NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Benton City staff has prepared a proposed amendment to Benton City Municipal Code (BCMC) Chapter 15.10 Flood Damage Prevention. The Chapter sets forth the city’s policies and regulations regarding areas of special flood hazards. The chapter is additionally referenced in Chapter 18.16 “Frequently Flooded Areas” as a part of the city’s codes addressing Critical Areas. The purpose of the amendment is to incorporate either required or recommended changes in order to be compliant with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Washington State law.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Benton City Planning Commission has scheduled a meeting for Thursday June 23, 2022 at 6:00 pm. This meeting will accommodate virtual and in-person attendance. Please go to the City’s website and access the meeting agenda to obtain information on how to participate in the public hearing via the online format, and for instructions on how to make a public comment (www.ci.benton-city.wa.us) remotely. During the meeting, the Planning Commission will conduct a legislative public hearing to gather public input and to review the proposed Chapter 15.10 amendment. All interested parties are invited to participate in the hearing; comments may be made verbally or in writing.
NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that the proposal is subject to environmental review. The City of Benton City is the lead agency for the proposal under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and reviewed the proposed non-project action for probable adverse environmental impacts and issued a determination of non-significance (DNS) for this proposal on June 6, 2022. The Comment period for the DNS concludes at 5:00 pm on June 21, 2022. The environmental checklist and related file information is available to the public upon request and will be sent to agencies with jurisdiction, the Washington State Department of Ecology, and others having an interest in the proposal.

Box 70, Benton City, WA 99320. Written comments must be received by 5:00 pm, Thursday June 16, 2022 in order to be included in the staff report to the Planning Commission for their public hearing. Comments received later can still be included in future meeting reports or provided at the public hearing.
