Numerous articles have been published recently that have created some confusion surrounding the future of the Three Rivers Behavioral Health Recovery Center.
We want to assure everyone in our community that the Recovery Center will happen. Recent developments in acquiring a facility have caused us to change our plans to find the best possible location for these services.
The County and LifePoint Health have negotiated terms regarding the purchase of the Kennewick General Hospital (KGH) campus, also known as the Trios Auburn Campus, and the County has every intention of purchasing the property. The property comes with restrictions, as a condition of the sale, that will limit what the County can and cannot do with the property, including what services can be provided there. This means some functions may not end up at this facility but that other necessary services will.
It is our intent to purchase KGH facility as well as purchase or lease an additional facility to best serve the needs of our community. At this time, we are discussing which services can be located at the KGH campus and which services will have to be located elsewhere. It is still our goal to have a “No Wrong Door” facility for persons experiencing mental health or substance use crisis and we want to assure everyone that no momentum has been lost in the establishment of a Recovery Center for our community and our region.
As of today, the County has secured over $9 million in state and federal funding to support this project and make it a reality. In addition, Benton County has committed up to $5 million of its funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to this project.
It is our goal to have a Recovery Center up and running in our community by 2025. We know this isn’t soon enough, but our staff are working to get these much-needed services to our community as quickly, efficiently, and affordably as possible.
