On 07/28/22 at 0753 hours, Richland officers responded to the Duportail bridge regarding a suspicious package under the bridge. It was reported that there was a cylinder wrapped in
duct tape with a long fuse attached. The RPD Bomb Squad was notified and responded. The package was rendered safe and there is no threat to public safety at this time.
Good work on the citizen who spotted the device and notified RPD right away. Improvised Explosive Devices can be dangerous and should not be handled by anyone who has not
been trained. If you see something that you believe could be an explosive, clear the area and call 911.
