Volunteer Invocation

Beginning November 1, 2022, the City Council will begin each regular city council meeting with one invocation presented by a volunteer resident of the City of Kennewick.

The invocation will be at the opening and ceremonial portion of the agenda preceding all legislative business. The regular meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month

and begin at 6:30 p.m. excluding any holidays.

Interested volunteer prayer/invocation givers must be a resident of the City of Kennewick.

Invocation Regulations:

Invocations shall be scheduled on a first come first served basis. Preference shall be given to persons who have not yet given an invocation over persons who have already done

so.

Invocation givers are limited to two regular meetings per year.

The selection of volunteer prayer/invocation givers shall be non-discriminatory and the contents of the invocation may be dictated by the beliefs of the individual offering the

invocation.

The invocation should not exceed sixty (60) seconds.

No city employee or elected official, or anyone in attendance shall be required to participate in an invocation.

Persons scheduled should not request those present at the meeting stand for the invocation.

No compensation shall be given for providing an invocation, nor shall any fee be required to participate.
