Richland Police Department Promotes Commander

Chief Brigit Clary recently promoted Damon Jansen to the position of Commander following the promotion of Dave Neher to Deputy Chief. Commander Jansen will be responsible for the Investigations Division of the police department.

Damon Jansen first started working in law enforcement in 1999 for the East Lansing Police Department, Michigan.  In 2003, Jansen transferred to the Richland Police Department where he has held the positions of Use of Force and Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) instructor, as well as Officer in Charge (OIC) for his patrol squad.  He spent 11 years as a detective and has served in various roles in the Special Investigations Unit since it started.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 when he led a patrol squad.  In 2021, Damon switched over to being the Sergeant of the Criminal Investigations Division until he was promoted to Lieutenant in June of 2022.

Damon Jansen is a Washington native, growing up in Sunnyside, WA.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
